Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare

Shipwrecks, disguises, and a whole lot of falling for the wrong person.

Southern State Community College Theatre opens its season with Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, a comedy about love, loss, and mistaken identity.

When a shipwreck separates twins Viola and Sebastian, each believes the other is gone. Alone in a strange land, Viola disguises herself as a young man and goes to work for Duke Orsino. Orsino loves the Countess Olivia. Olivia falls for Viola in disguise. And Viola is falling for Orsino. Meanwhile, Olivia’s rowdy uncle and his friends plot an elaborate prank on her stuffy steward, Malvolio. When Viola’s twin turns up alive, everything comes to a head.

This production is set in the Edwardian era and is filled with live music played on stage by the cast. It’s funny, romantic, and surprisingly tender. If you’ve never seen Shakespeare, this is a great place to start.
